The installation takes the form of a glass passage approximately 17 meters long and 1,5 meters wide, created from cones placed in two lines, entirely made of glass. They appear identical but have different endings. One row has open-ended forms, while the other has closed ones. The installation is performative and haptic. Visitors are compelled to enter this delicate corridor, as its placement at the entrance to the hall makes it impossible to bypass.
Wysocka constructs a narrow passage between what is masculine and feminine. "Cautiously" addresses the blurring of one of the many aspects of the old system that seemed fundamental: the division into two genders. The artist draws attention to dualism and symmetry in the context of the social and individual body. The work shows that gender, gender relations, and sexuality are individual experiences and choices.
The work was exhibited, among others, at the Architectures of Gender. Contemporary Women’s Art in Poland at Sculpture Center in New York in 2003 curated by Aneta Szyłak.
