Symmetry, dualism, dichotomy, and identity are key concepts that recur in many of the artist's works. The print "East or West" was created after the accidental discovery of a haiku by the Japanese author Yaohiko, probably written in the 18th century:
Clouds of flowers
fall not knowing
east or west
It became a source of reflection on the construction of identity and the social, political, environmental, and natural factors that influence our sense of who we are and where we belong.
